TSSM Annual Meeting

April 13-14, 2018

held in conjunction with the

Texas Orthopaedic Association

The Texas Society of Sports Medicine (TSSM) and Texas Orthopaedic Association (TOA) worked with state lawmakers in the 85th Texas Legislature to recognize the license of out-of-state team physicians when they travel with their teams to Texas for athletic competitions.

The Texas Sunset Commission directed the Texas Medical Board to develop a rule that would provide temporary licensing to out-of-state team physicians.

TSSM and TOA will work with state lawmakers during the special session to include HB 986 (Rep. Bobby Guerra, D-McAllen) and SB 849 (Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas) in the Texas Medical Board's sunset legislation.

There is a growing epidemic of preventable youth sports injuries that are dismantling kids' athletic hopes and dreams at an early age. In response, the STOP Sports Injuries campaign was created by a coalition of organizations and corporations to help prevent athletic overuse and trauma injuries in kids.
