The
Texas Society of Sports Medicine (TSSM) and Texas
Orthopaedic Association (TOA) worked with state
lawmakers in the 85th Texas Legislature to recognize
the license of out-of-state team physicians when
they travel with their teams
to Texas for athletic competitions.
The Texas Sunset
Commission directed the Texas Medical Board to
develop a rule that would provide temporary
licensing to out-of-state team physicians.
TSSM and TOA will work
with state lawmakers during the special session to
include HB 986 (Rep. Bobby Guerra, D-McAllen) and SB
849 (Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas) in the Texas
Medical Board's sunset legislation.
